As per the latest research by World Halal Forum, Malaysia, quoted in TIME Magazine (May 2009), the total size of Global Halal food market is worth about US$ 632 billion in 2009 and if we also include the non-Muslim consumers, the total figure will be much higher.

Halal Industry experts believe the size of the total global Halal market (for all Halal products and services) ranges from a minimum of US$ 1 trillion to US$ 2 trillion per annum.

In Europe, the market size of Halal Foods is estimated to be US$ 66 Billion.

France is the largest Halal market in Europe worth over US$ 17 Billion.

In the United Kingdom, the sale of Halal meat products only is worth over US$ 600 million annually.

The GCC’s annual Halal food imports is worth approx US$44 billion while Halal Food Sales in India are estimated to be worth over US$ 21 billion annually.

Indonesia, the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, has an annual Halal Food expenditure of over US$ 70 billion with New Zealand and Australia as its biggest beef suppliers.

The American Muslims spend around US$13 billion on Halal food products annually but the demand of Halal products is more than double as they also spend another $16 billion a year on Kosher products because which are freely available on the shelves of every main street market.


A recent “Mintel” survey to compare availability of Halal products versus kosher products showed that there are almost 1000 Halal certified products available in North America as compared to 86000 kosher products, which means that for every Halal product on the shelf, the customers have 86 kosher products to choose from.
